Pinwheel Layout

Right side up
I finished making the pinwheels and now have them all up on the design board in search of a pleasing layout.  Do I want the colors spread or concentrated?  Where do I want the light to fall?  Do I want a random layout, a planned layout, a symmetrical layout, or elements of each.  I take pictures of the layout and then try to look at them in different ways.

Sideways
Black and White

Upside down
I usually leave the layout on the design board for a few days to look at it in daylight and evening light.  I tweak until I am happy with it.  How do you layout your blocks?

I like to do the same as you. I look at it all from different angles to see how it looks. Then I walk away for a while before I make any changes.
Good luck!

I do the same as you. I leave it out for a few days, rearrange, tweak the blocks positions until I'm happy. Also audition different border fabrics on the sides. Haven't tried the black and white photo.
Looks like a very sweet quilt, girl. Looking forward to seeing it when you finish.

I do a similar thing.. arrange them on the design board. Step back, squint, tilt head, look from various angles. Go to bed and look at it again the next day. I always end up moving them around several times. sometimes I take pictures, or I just look at it through my camera lens. BTW, I love pinwheels.

This is gorgeous. I love pinwheels but I avoid triangles. I usually figure out my color layouts on electric quilt. It's awesome for that. Plus I don't have a design wall or room to lay out blocks.
